Rice cooker! I love rice cookers!
I got a rice cooker some time ago; it is a cheap Russel and Hobbs one, if I recall correctly it was around ~£24-29. I still have trouble with rice burning at the bottom of the pot, I do not know if it is something I am doing or if it is a problem with the pot… My mother said that is normal, but my father is able to use it without burning the rice, so I'm not sure. The burnt rice is still edible, so I do not mind so much.
My favourite thing to do is add vegetables (usually bell peppers because I love bell peppers) and some kind of really thin or small meat in the rice cooker (sometimes I will add butter to the bottom of the rice cooker and cooking the meats a little bit before adding the rice and veg.) I recently got miso paste and soy sauce, so I'll usually add that as well. Sometimes the pot overflows, though, so I have to check periodically. Again, not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is the pot itself, I thought maybe I was adding too much water, but adding too little also does it... Would I recommend it?... If you are willing to experiment a bit to see what works with the rice cooker and what doesn't, I would! I think it helped me a lot with cooking more filling meals for myself without too much energy. When I have energy, I will sort pre-cut vegetables into tubs and just add them directly to the pot when it is time to make a meal. I hope to experiment more with the rice cooker, maybe make non-rice meals -- I hope to make the rice cooker cake some day!
